I am a child of the 21st century

Born in the world of vices, corruption
where agony, suffering thrive
weapons cluttered up in this capacious sodom
where peace finds it hard to survive...

with no nouns of peace around, with no horizons of insanity
i begin my life with no memory and no hope for a future..
but still, i look for the moment that is never there
i look for the tranquil silence that is never there

what all prevails are the innocuous cries..
what stalks the streets is the terrible vowel 'I'
i raised my eyes to see the beautiful sky
but before i could see it, it folded up and bid goodbye..

In the civilised forest of civilised sapiens
as i moved to explore the unmentioned and the unsaid..
A tit for tat, a gun for gun
being slayed were those who deserved none !!

A monument of death is what you are building
you wreck your own way
you vision a utopia against a backdrop of weapons
aiming to construct with the blocks of destruction ...

Infantry, Artillery and Armour didnt win you "peace"
and you think Nuclear weapons will satisfy your caprice ...
As foam precludes with nothing in our hands
you will be left resentful, rueful and sad...

you bred fear, suffering and chaos
and you dismissed lives ...
amputees and orphans cursed you
and the widowed wives ...

The black dove did frighten me ..
where is the peaceful white ???
why are you supplanting cactuses,
when flowers are all you like ....

When will you conceal your past and cradle me ??..
my soul shrieks and squeals for your love ...
i didnt come into the world to witness the dreadful end
when will you show me the white dove ????

today, i stand at the gallows and i am forced to kiss the noose...
i would see my dreadful end today but i donot know whether i deserved it...
you loved your weapons, you loved power and somewhere ,i know, you loved me too..
But you'll lose me today and will keep losing me everytime you fire your weapon...

With every 'me' you murder, you will murder your peace, your soul
You will reek the futility of the weapons you love...
No argument can ever justify your love for weapons
and Never will !!!!

I am a child of the 21st century....
who will face the consequences of the mistakes you make !!

hey that is lot of writing...................cool.only
a thudda can do that....i like it bt yes i would like to add that we dont want to use these wepons ,some evil powers are forcing us to use them....or in other words its the need of time.
even lord krishna said in gita ''attyachar sehna paap hai, koi agar tum pe hathiyaar uthaye...to tumhe uska jawab dena haaq hai..... or ye hi tuhara dharm hai''.........bt still very well expresed ..........good job my frnd ..keep it up

This comes to me as a piece of work which began with a perfect flow with eveything so much in phase but I would say the poet gave in too early to his pain and the rush of emotion I witnessed in the begining that went slack somewhere in the middle, although I do not criticise the element of preach'Oh do not fight' but yes the rise and fall was not rythmic.nonetheless some of the metaphors are very well used.just be carefull while making transition from a microscopic to macroscopic view.all the best.

Amazing work!
The words used are the most appropriate and manage to create the actual picture in the reader's mind.
The description is too good but as you say their love for weapons, I dont feel it is like that, because complying to the 'survival of the fittest' theory, one has to use the weapons and armour to survive and I am afraid it is the high time to do that.

Hi,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘In search of a laureate within’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

Cheers,
Ray

I think the idea in the poem is perfectly conveyed....but it will completely fall in place if u title the poem as "I am a Child of War" or "Under the sun, Under the gun" etc. coz 21st century is a slightly generic term.... War would be more closer to the idea in this poem :-)
